for artists
Frequently Asked Questions about Artist MembershipQ: If I become a member, can you guarantee that my work will be displayed?
A: No. We have more artists than we do time and wall space available. Even though our showroom is large, there are only 12 months in a year and we often have the walls committed for special events. The work that hangs in our rotation venues is chosen and approved by the client. If you are looking for guaranteed show space your best bet is to join a co-op.
Q: But there are artist members hanging in your showroom now.
A: Yes, of course we hang member’s artist work. We cannot, however, guarantee this to any particular artist as part of their membership. There are many factors that go into deciding on the work we showcase including whether or not we feel the work has a high appeal for our walk in market.
Q: But the other galleries I am in show my work.
A: Our business model is not that of a traditional gallery. We provide an online marketing tool for artists and technology-based art consulting for our buyer clients. Our showroom is another tool we use to stay visible to our clients.
Q: So what does my membership fee pay for?
A: Your membership . It pays for us to host images on our website including the cost to load the images and information. We also allow for unlimited changes throughout your membership to keep your site up to date. Any other opportunities that result from being an artist member are purely icing on the cake and should certainly be prepared for, but not expected. It should be viewed as a marketing expense
Q: I don’t really understand the value in that.
A: If you were to build, maintain and market your own website the costs would be much higher. We do it all for you and already have an ever growing amount of visitors to our website, subscribers to our newsletter, fans and followers on social networking sites. There is value in our labor, knowledge, existing connections and proven traffic statistics.
Q: But I already have my own website.
A: The value of having an additional web presence is that we already have traffic and will help drive traffic to your site. We have members whose traffic to their site went up by as much as 30% as a result of having links on a more visible site.
Q: If I become a member will my work sell?
A: Maybe, maybe not. Like any marketing effort, nothing is guaranteed. All we can promise is that we will continue to drive as many visitors to our site as possible. Sales are a numbers game and we work hard on consistently growing the numbers. We also utilize our online inventory of art to present work to clients which may result in opportunities, but the work we present is based on their specific tastes and preferences which we cannot predict.
Q: Will you meet with me to discuss my career goals and business plan?
A: Art career consulting is not part of the membership. We can, however, refer you to professionals who offer this service.
Q: How much traffic does ArtworkNetwork.com get?
A: Please see our statistics page for current statistics.
Q: How are you marketing my artwork?
A: We don't specifically market any one artist member over another. Rather we market the website and our company as a place to view and purchase a wide variety of artwork. You
can look at us and our website as an additional marketing tool to compliment your other efforts.
Q: How much commission does Artwork Network charge?
A: If we bring you the client and/or handle the sale, we retain a 45% commission. If a buyer contacts you directly through the website and you handle the sale, we take no
commission.
Q: How do people find my artwork on the website?
A: All artwork is listed by media, subject, price, the artist's name, as well as by keywords to ensure every piece of art has maximum search ability.
Q: How do buyers contact me?
A: A buyer may get in touch with an artist via the contact information the artist has provided on their gallery site, or in most cases through Artwork Network personnel.
Q: How do I upload my art?
A: Once you become a member we will send you an email specifying the information we need. All artwork should be sent to Artwork Network on a clearly labeled CD or via email, where a member of the staff will upload your art for you.
Q: What size and format should my art be in?
A: Images can be no smaller than 600 pixels on one site with a web resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
Q: How often will I be able to update my images?
A: As often as you like. Simply email the changes to support@artworknetwork.com
Q: What is the URL of my gallery site?
A: An artist's gallery site can be found at http://www.artworknetwork/yourfirstandlastname. We can also purchase an additional domain so that your gallery may be available at www.yourname.com.
Q: How many images can I display?
A: How many images you may display depends on what membership package you choose upon signing with Artwork Network. You may have 16, 24 or 48 images displayed in your gallery. The more inventory and sold sections are also dependent of your membership level.
Q: What is the purpose of the sold section?
A: To show a history of your actual sales. This is important as clients often want to see what work has sold for in the past. It is also very useful for insurance purposes.
